The 25th World Street Nationals Set To Begin

Heads-up racing has a rich past that’s filled with legendary events that helped shape the course of the genre with the World Street Nationals being one of the biggest. Those who wanted to prove they were one of the fastest in all of outlaw racing made the pilgrimage to Orlando Speed World Dragway to be a part of history. The World Street Nationals 25th anniversary event is set to kick off this weekend with a huge Pro Mod purse and national championships to be decided tow small tire classes. You can see it all unfold this weekend on Dragzine during out same day coverage.

The World Street Nationals has seen many different classes contested over the years and there was a point where racers would build cars to compete specifically at this event. With so many fast cars from different classes all in one place, it was a dream event for those who love horsepower. When Ozzy and Maria Moya purchased Orlando Speed World they made a big investment of time and money into the track; part of that was to try and bring this race back to its full prominence again.

According to Orlando Speed World’s Lee Sebring, this year’s event is bringing back the streetcar vibe the original events had to allow even more racers to be a part of the World Street Nationals.

“Everyone misses the old cruise and cars coming back to line up and race. This year we decided to incorporate in a True Street class and have the quickest and fastest street cars come out to see who will be crowned champion. The cool part is we give prizes out to the second quickest and closest to 9.00 all the way to 15.00 like your typical True Street class. We also invited the Florida Top Ten to come duke it out and see who can make their way up the local list.”

The main event at the World Street Nationals is the $25,000-to-win Pro Mod class. There are 40 racers already pre-registered to attempt making the 32-car field at the event. With that much cash up for grabs, there are some big names coming to be a part of the race. To make things even more enticing for Pro Mod racers, there’s a $10,000-to-win second chance Pro Mod race for all of the first round losers of the main event.

The Billet Atomizer Outlaw 10.5 World Championship and Vortech Ultra Street World Championship will both also be decided at the World Street Nationals.

“It’s going to be great to have the Ultra Street World Champion crowned at the World Street Nationals and that’s thanks to John Sears. The Outlaw 10.5 class is going to be wild with cars running on a Mickey Thompson 315 drag radial or a 10.5W tire. Mark Woodruff will be here this weekend to see how his Radial vs The World Corvette does in Outlaw 10.5 trim,” Sebring says.

There will be a lot of other great racing at the World Street Nationals with Outlaw 632, Heavy Street, Top Sportsman, Open Comp, a No Time shootout, 8.50, and 10.00 index racing all on the schedule. Make sure you follow for all the same day coverage of the 2018 World Street Nationals this weekend.
