Brittany Force took care of business Friday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
The driver of the Advance Auto Parts dragster took the provisional No. 1 qualifier with a 3.712-second elapsed time at 328.38 mph in the second qualifying session.
“I’m feeling confident going into the rest of this weekend,” Force said. “The Advance Auto Parts team stayed after Bristol (Tenn.) and we tested all day Monday (June 17) and hoped to find some things before coming out here for the last of four races in a row. The first run we didn’t get down there (5.965 seconds), but that second run was a beautiful run. Seeing a 3.71 on the board was just awesome and so was stealing that No. 1 spot.”
Force entered Norwalk fifth in the season points standings. She dropped two spots after losing to Dom Lagana in the first round at Bristol last weekend. Force had 13 career No. 1 qualifying efforts, including three this year with new crew chief David Grubnic. These came at Gainesville, Fla., Houston and Atlanta.
“We are looking forward to (Saturday),” Force said. “We’re hoping for two more consistent runs, that’s what we really need going into race day. Our plan is to go out and win this thing.”
Force has one race win this season, that coming at Houston.
“It’s always the energy in our pit,” Force said. “It’s the energy that we carry when we get beat or we win. This team has always been positive and Grubnic has always stayed positive and that helps me as a driver. It’s important to have that in a team and carry that with you through the ups and downs and we have definitely done that. So, it feels really good to celebrate this small victory and we are hoping to fight through all weekend long.”
