Bumblebee 2.0 Clocks 3.59 On Drag Radials In Darlington Test

Just in time for DuckX Productions’ Sweet 16 2.0 back in March, South Carolinian Jeff Miller revealed his latest weapon: a Jerry Bickel Race Cars-built 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. With the original Bumblebee oversized and overweight, this trick new piece would allow he and his team to become more competitive in Radial versus The World-style racing.

Noted Miller at the time: “We really want to see how far we can push this new car with our combination. The original Bumblebee is nine years old and was built to run a 4.70s class — it wasn’t built to do what we have been trying to make it do. This new car is closer to being a purpose-built radial-tire car. We’re working with a new shock company and our engine builder is trying a new program to see what it can do. It’s a new engine program but it’s not new parts. With this new car, we’re able to keep the front end down a lot easier than the old car and that alone is going to really help us.”

A 3.791-second best in its debut at Sweet 16 relegated to Miller outside the field in the 30th qualifying slot, but five months of refinement with the Holley EFI-controlled, screw-type supercharged Hemi — combined with a 50-pound weight deduction for the screw combination going forward — have allowed him to jump up into the upper echelons of the radial-tire arena.

Testing late last week at nearby Darlington Dragway, Miller first clocked a 3.74 at 204 mph and bettered it with a 3.67 at 205 by night’s end. After weather moved through the area Friday and Saturday, Miller and company returned Sunday and uncorked a 3.63 at 205 mph right off the trailer and then backed it up with a career-best 3.59 at 206 mph. While those numbers are largely unofficial, if at weight, it would mark him just the third Radial versus The World driver into the 3.50s and the first with a belt-driven supercharger to do so, joining only Daniel Pharris (turbo) and Kevin Rivenbark (ProCharger). The quickest official supercharger run stands at 3.624, set by Jeff Sitton.

Miller’s menacing Bumblebee 2.0 is powered by a 526 cubic-inches of Honeycutt Engines and Machine Hemi with a PSI screw blower controlled by Holley EFI. A Neal Racing Transmission two-speed Turbo 400 transmission and ProTorque lock-up torque converter transfer the power. Miller credits the new QA1 MOD shocks for much of his success this season.
