Kayla Morton's Spectacular Save At No Prep Kings

Oklahoma native Kayla Morton has been mixing it up with the boys on Street Outlaws since nearly its inception, and she was already seasoned behind the wheel long before that. And if you had any lack of faith in her abilities behind the wheel — as prejudice to her gender or otherwise — it’s fair to say she put that notion to bed over the course of two weekends earlier this month.

In the lanes amongst inarguably the strongest collection of big-tire, no-prep cars ever assembled, Kayla motored through the field at Outlaw Armageddon 5 at Thunder Valley Raceway on August 3, defeating surprise finalist Wayne Smozanek’s supercharged Ford Probe in her ProCharger F-3X-143-boosted Mustang in the final. That win, the biggest of her career, put $50,000 in her pockets.

Riding high from that victory, she headed to the next stop on the Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings calendar the following weekend at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. There, she was paired up alongside Kye Kelley, whom she trailed the entire 1/8-mile. At the close of that matchup, a flash of flame is visible under the hood of Kayla’s Mustang, and what ensued is one the of most impressive saves we’ve ever witnessed. With fluid under the big rear slicks, the car went right, went left, and nearly turned onto its roof, while still carrying a full head of steam. As you’ll see, the finish line scoreboards partially block the view of her insane driving job, but in a situation where many drivers would have piled their car up once, maybe twice, Kayla scratched nothing more than the shine off off the driver’s side zoomie headers.
