John Gaydosh Jr. is back in NHRA’s Pro Stock ranks – at least for one race.

Gaydosh Jr., will be running a second car – a Dodge Dart – for his good friend, Alan Prusiensky at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals Sept. 27-29 in St. Louis.

“Alan has two cars and he needs some stuff worked out in his program and he asked me if I would come drive one of his cars (in St. Louis),” Gaydosh Jr. said. “Alan wants me to go jump in (his second car) and try and straighten it out so if he leases it out to someone else, he knows it is a good viable piece. We are working on his program and I’m just helping him as a friend. I want to help him get two good sources of information from the cars at the race track in St. Louis.”

Prusiensky told Competition Plus during the U.S. Nationals earlier this month that in 2020, he we will have two cars at least for 14 or 15 races.

Gaydosh Jr. said this is a one-race deal with Prusiensky. Gaydosh Jr. competed in the NHRA’s Pro Stock class for 10 years before walking away from the sport after he competed in Pro Stock at the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Series event in Reading. Pa., last September.

Following the 2018 Reading race, Gaydosh Jr. sold his 2013 Camaro to another racer based in Sweden.

“I still have all my tools, truck, trailer and equipment, but I don’t have a car anymore,” he said.

Throughout his Pro Stock career, Gaydosh Jr. never ran a Dodge he was behind the wheel of a Pontiac or a Camaro, but he’s not worried about a learning curve.

“I’m just going to go jump in and I’m going to go let her eat,” Gaydosh Jr. “I have a good set-up in mind already in how I ran before. I’m going to put my set-up in the car and with his horsepower we should be close, and we should be able to go out and roll right with it. I like racing in St. Louis so when Alan gave me the opportunity to race there I to make sure my guys Bob Crouse and Bob Wood were available. Bob Crouse is my clutch guy and Bob Wood does the back half and they are coming with me to St. Louis. Without them, I couldn’t do this.”

Jeremy Martorella drove Prusiensky’s second car at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis earlier this month and at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., Sept. 13-15, David Miller was Prusiensky’s second driver.

“I’m not the type that gets anxious,” Gaydosh Jr. said. “I stay pretty calm. It should all be good. I will get in, sit in the seat, be comfortable, drop the clutch and let her eat. I have expectations of qualifying (making the 16-car field).”
