Ryan Sammut Is Coming To FL2K Looking For A Win

When you attend FL2K you’re going to see impressive cars from all over the United States, but Ryan Sammut makes it a global event. The Canadian is ready to bring his 7-second Toyota Supra to FL2K this year with the hopes of picking up a win in the highly-competitive 2JZ Invitational class.

Sammut grew up on the island of Malta before moving to Canada, and he has been drag racing since he was 16 years old. These days you can find Sammut at the track every weekend somewhere in his home country flogging his record-setting 1996 right-hand drive Toyota Supra. Sammut’s Supra isn’t a trailer queen by any stretch — the car is registered, insured, and driven on the street often.

After importing the Supra from Japan in 2012, Sammut began the journey of taking the car from a stock 310 horsepower car to a 1,500 horsepower machine that has run as quick as 7.68 at 183 MPH. Sammut has built the car in his one-car garage at home and upgraded most of it himself. Under the hood is a 2JZ block filled with great parts and topped off with a Headgames Motorworks cylinder head. Providing boost is a Precision 8685 turbo that funnels air into a Hypertune intake manifold. Behind the engine is a Rossler XHD TH400 transmission and ProTorque bolt-together torque converter.

“I’m not part of a shop, I do all the work myself with barely any help. It’s just me and three friends in a one-car garage that do pretty much everything to the car. I do all the wiring, engine assembly, and fine-tuning at the track, you name it I do it when it comes to this car. I compete against all the big shops and they cannot come close to what I can do. The hard work has paid off and my car is one of the quickest imports in all of Canada,” Sammut says.

Coming to an event like FL2K is something that Sammut is really looking forward to; it provides him with a great opportunity to see what it’s like to race against the best in the world. Sammut is also very excited to meet many of his fellow Supra enthusiasts in person.

“This is my first time competing at an event in the United States. I’m looking forward to socializing with all these Supra legends and finally meeting them in person. Chris Delgado has always tuned my car remotely so this will be his first time seeing the car in person. My FL2K winning strategy is consistency and reliability while having Chris on the keyboard. I’m going to utilize his drag racing knowledge to win the 2JZ Invitational,” Sammut says.
