The 2020 Atlantic Oils East Coast Thunder meeting scheduled for Sydney Dragway in November has been canceled, making it the fifth event this year to fall victim to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last meeting on the domestic calendar was at Sydney Dragway, January 25, 2020.
“As much as we were looking forward to hosting this event at our newly refurbished facility, the current situation surrounding limited spectator numbers and the ever-changing regulations around public gatherings has made planning for this event extremely difficult,” said Sydney Dragway General Manager Peter Beaumont. “Whilst the decision to cancel the event has been difficult, the varying regulations on border closures, and restricted movements across the country illustrates that it will be sometime before crowds can return without the risks that currently exist.”
The next event on the calendar is the New Year Thunder meeting at Willowbank Raceway in January 2021. However, this will be subject to the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, the opening of state borders and easing of social distancing protocols.
